SBW Partners

Our Firm

SBW Partners is a fee-for-service firm devoted to advancing social work practice in aging. Services are provided by the firm's founding partners, Dr. Barbara Silverstone and Dr. Ann Burack-Weiss and a group of associates - practitioners, administrators, educators, and researchers - all of whom are recognized professional leaders in the field.

Our Mission

Social work practice with older people and their families has never been as rewarding, or as challenging. A growing aging population - more culturally and ethnically diverse than ever before - is turning to us for help. Many newly dependent elders are experiencing anxiety or depression or dementia along with a host of illnesses and disabilities. Others continue decades-long battles to maintain psychiatric stability and sobriety. Families are often troubled, sometimes fractured, and occasionally abusive. Medical and technological advances create unprecedented end-of-life dilemmas.

Community service agencies and health care facilities need workers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet these challenges. Professional workers need "best practices" information as well as enhancement of clinical assessment and intervention techniques. Non-professional workers need a practical understanding of what their clients are going through - and a repertoire of helpful responses. SBW Partners is committed to meeting these goals.
